Case Study
The Story So Far
At this meeting , the IT Director picks out three critical technology platforms, which between them support just about all of the Day-to-Day running of the Company.
- Insure/90 - This is a market leading all in one insurance policy administration platform that administers everything from new business, premium collection, claims, settlement payments and renewals. Insure/90 is available as a commercial product and has been developed by its current owner SSP, which has now introduced SSP Digital Insurance Platform, its new cloud based platform, but your company has been operating an older version of it for years and has customised the code base, so that it is now almost totally bespoke. For this reason, it is largely maintained and supported by Company's own team of software engineers.
- Kofax - is used inside the company to scan correspondence, policy related documents into a digital format and is closely integrated to the I90 Policy Administration system.
- JD Edwards - is an ERP or Enterprise Resource Platform that takes care of corporate accounting functions, such as ledgers, invoicing and financial reporting. It was acquired by ORACLE some years ago and is marketed alongside ORACLE's own ERP Solution.
All three applications run from the data centre in the basement which is out of date and overcrowded. It is part of the reason the IT Director wishes to adopt a cloud model, it can expand as needed.
As you may have guessed, these are not young platforms - all have been in use here for nearly two decades. I90 and J D Edwards run on a IBM mid-range I series systems (formerly known as AS400), which are still popular, although a very unfashionable choice among IT professionals from Gen Y and Gen Z generations.
